Basis:

Classification is based on induction of local carcinomas following inhalation and subcutaneous exposures in rats, tumor induction in rats following prenatal exposure, and evidence suggestive of carcinogenicity in hamsters and mice by inhalation. Dimethyl sulfate alkylates cellular macromolecules and is genotoxic.
