This document was developed in support of EPA's response to Request for Correction (RFC) #17002: Integrated Risk Information System; Toxicological Review of Chloroprene. The document describes the IRIS Program's evaluation of the literature published after the 2010 finalization of the IRIS Assessment of Chloroprene. This document includes EPA's Response (Attachment 1) and Systematic Review of Chloroprene Studies Public Since 2010 IRIS Assessment to Support Consideration of the Denka Request for Correction (RFC) (Attachment 2).

Background

Chloroprene (C4H5Cl) is a volatile, flammable liquid used primarily in the manufacture of polychloroprene or neoprene rubber. The latter is used to make diverse products, such as tires, wire coatings, and tubing. Human health risk concerns for chloroprene are primarily related to exposures via effluent and emissions from facilities that use chloroprene to produce polychloroprene elastomers or transport the product, although these exposure concerns have not been well characterized.

Sep 2010	EPA released the final IRIS Toxicological Report and Summary for Chloroprene with the interagency science discussion draft with comments.
Jan	In support of Request for Correction (RFC) #17002, EPA released the following document which includes EPA's Response (Attachment 1) and Systematic Review of Chloroprene Studies Public Since 2010 IRIS Assessment to Support Consideration of the Denka Request for Correction (RFC) (Attachment 2).
