Overview

In 1990, EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) Program finalized the cancer evaluation of formaldehyde. This document outlines in Section II (Carcinogenicity Assessment for Lifetime Exposure) the conclusions that were reached, including the derivation of toxicity value(s). Supporting information and explanations of the methods used are provided in guidance documents located on the EPA website. This 1991 evaluation has been replaced by the EPA assessment posted to IRIS in 2024. This 1991 IRIS document remains available as a historical reference.
